A poem is never finished, only abandoned. ~Paul Valéry

I am never satisfied with my writings, I go over them a million times and revise them a million and one only to end dissatisfied and hopeless.

And then I abandon them to whatever criticism I may receive, throwing them into the trash in my mind with helplessness.

Why am I never satisified?

This is the writers (or any artist's) fate. I think if we were ever satisfied we would stop creating. So the curse of this is that you are always looking at the things you have done and seeing the flaws and the things you should fix. I just put them on the shelf, so to speak. I put it down on paper and eventually just leave it on that paper and force myself to stop editing. I had a few things published in college in some obscure anthologies and whenever I look back at them I cringe... But like I said, it's "normal".

yeah, writing can be a frustrating experience.

but what drew me to your website in the first place was your engaging way of writing

it is hard to imagine how anyone could not be touched by your posting 'a thousand fathers but my own'.

I used to have a lot of difficulty writing. A lot of it sounded contrived and forced. over time i developed a more natural style of writing. it helped if the topic interested me

I am a bit of a perfectionist and I re-read and over-analyze everything I write.

not much else for me to say, except, that I hear ya'

I think most writers/artists are that way. I think you're extremely talented.

I feel kind of whiny. Honestly, I think my writing sucks, it feels stilted and ungangly. Or exactly as Janene put it: contrived and forced.

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate them. But I promise I didn't post that fishing for compliments. I swear.

I'm glad its not just me.
